School Meals

We are pleased to report that at our latest Food & Hygiene Inspection (May 2024) we were awarded 5 Stars.

A variety of food outlets serve hot food and sandwiches/snacks.

Details of the food items your child has purchased can be found by visiting your iPay account.

How to Pay for Food

Horsforth School operates a cashless payment system. When students join the school, parents are asked to give consent to the use of facial recognition on our catering system. If consent is not given students will be allocated a catering card.

An iPay (our online payment system) joining code will be issued for parents to be able to put funds onto their child’s dinner money account.

Insufficient Funds on Lunch Card

Whilst we do our best to discourage the use of overdrafts, our students’ wellbeing is our priority. Therefore, we operate a lending system at lunchtime only. Till operators will allow students to purchase a main meal and a small bottle of water as long as their account is not already overdrawn to a maximum of £5.50.

You will be notified by email each week if your account is overdrawn.

Free School Meals

If your child is entitled to Free School Meals, they will have a £3.75 daily allowance for food/drinks to spend at lunchtime only in the main diner outlets (not vending machines). Any unused funds will be removed each day after 2pm.

Account Spending Limits

All our students have a daily spending cap of £6.00. However, this can be altered at parents’ request by emailing finance@horsforthschool.org

Facial Recognition

We operate facial recognition on our catering tills for students to pay for school meals. The system brings many advantages including:

  • Shorter queue times due to a faster service
  • 100% contactless, so more hygienic
  • Students don’t need lunch cards (they won’t be penalised in the queue for forgetting their card and there will be no charge for replacing lost/damaged cards)
  • It will eliminate the chance of manual till error or students using cards that don’t belong to them
  • Facial recognition is familiar to students e.g. used on phones.

We will need parental consent to capture the biometric data to use facial recognition on our school catering tills.

Replacement Catering Card

All students not given consent for facial recognition will receive a catering card free of charge when they join Horsforth School. However, if this is lost or damaged a replacement card will incur a £5.00 charge.

Please note if your child forgets their card they will be asked to wait until the end of service to be served.

Replacement cards are issued by the Finance Office before or after school.
