UCAS

The majority of students in each Year 13 progress to undergraduate study at a UK university; 110 UCAS applications were submitted in the 2015 to 2016 applications cycle. In 2015 over a quarter of those applying for an undergraduate degree in the UK progressed to a Russell Group university.

All students whose UCAS application requires an interview are given individualised preparatory guidance sessions and at least one mock interview prior to University interviews. Liaison co-ordinated by the Head of Sixth Form with external agencies provides the opportunity for many students to experience a mock interview with a specialist from a neighbouring school or college. While the Sixth Form’s role within the Red Kite Alliance allows for the organisation of a number of mock interview and seminar events for students applying for courses requiring interviews, for instance for Medicine and Oxbridge applicants.

Specialised support groups at Horsforth School (such as the History, Politics and Philosophy Society) are geared towards enhancing the applications of students in specific fields.

The Sixth Form has also supported students applying for universities abroad; students have progressed to Universities in the Netherlands, while others have recently progressed to successful undergraduate study in the USA and Canada.
