St George's Crypt Shoe Box Appeal

We have been overwhelmed by the tremendous  efforts of students from all year groups and our staff with this year’s Christmas appeal to support the wider community. We would like to thank parents and carers for their contributions for the shoe box appeal, which saw us sending a record 250 boxes of treats and gifts to the homeless in Leeds. The boxes had a vast array of useful and important items for the winter period as well personal products, and games and treats especially for Christmas. The Crypt came to school to collect the boxes on Monday 11th December and our 6th Form students helped to give these out to the homeless the next day in Leeds.

It was a fabulous effort by everybody concerned. We wanted this to be a real community effort for the community. The clients of the Crypt were astounded to see such generosity on display and congratulated our students on their team effort, citizenship skills and compassion.

A full report about the event in school and at the Crypt has been written by a 6th Form student wishing to study journalism and this can be found below.

A special thanks to Mrs Kennedy who organised and led this very special whole school event.
