Enhancement OPPORTUNITIES Fur ther OPPORTUNITIES We aim to ensure that all students enjoy learning and achieve their potential, not only in their studies but also in sporting, creative and practical endeavours. Students play a key role in the School’s dramatic productions by getting involved in the choreography of dance routines as well as being members of the orchestra, choir or band.Those keen to learn sports coaching help to organise the School rugby, football, hockey and netball teams obtaining the highly-valued Community Sports Leadership Award. Sixth Formers can help to mentor our younger students by organising activities during tutor group time and can obtain training to allow them to develop the reading abilities of students at our School; and there are opportunities to support the technical aspects of the School in subjects like Science, ICT, Art and English. Students can take part in the debating club, drama club, history club, Student Council and have the opportunity to go on trips to places like Peru, Japan and Borneo. Fundraising events are organised to raise money for charities such as the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. The annual Mini Olympics competition is highly anticipated and students organise talent shows, inter-form charity dodge ball tournaments and Battle of the Bands competitions for our younger students to raise valuable charity funds. We are proud to have developed numerous links with schools and organisations in other countries – exchanges and cultural visits to France, Spain and Japan make an enormously positive contribution to the experiences of our Sixth Form students. Every November sixYear 12 students are chosen to represent the School at the ‘Japan Super Science Fair’ held in Kyoto.This fair is an annual event which involves 200 students from over 20 countries worldwide. Our students have also recently visited Borneo, helping to build facilities for the local community and plant over one thousand trees in the rainforest.
