Horsforth School Prospectus

10 OPPORTUNITY AND ACHIEVEMENT FOR ALL | HORSFORTH SCHOOL GLOBAL AWARENESS We work hard to ensure that all our students develop a tolerant attitude towards others and are able to celebrate diversity as well as understanding their rights and responsibilities in order to co-exist in a democratic society. At Horsforth School we encourage our students to realise that by working with other people we learn about each other’s cultures and become able to explore new ideas and prospects. Options that would not have occurred to us before, stand out as obvious, if we understand how other people experience their world. This is why we believe it is so important for students to have a deeper global awareness and understanding of other cultures. We are, however, aware that they still need to be guided through the process of discovery so that a deeper understanding of their own place in the world is developed and this is something all staff at Horsforth School promote through contextualised lesson planning and extra-curricular opportunities. The Science trips to Japan and Iceland, the sports tour to Spain and foreign language assistants who bring a little bit of abroad into our classrooms, are just a few of the many examples of contextualised learning that we provide our students. By fostering global awareness and international collaboration we are able to best prepare our students - and ourselves - for life in the 21st century. “ Both the school’s curriculum and events offered to students develop their excellent spiritual, moral, social and cultural understanding. ” Ofsted 2013
