Our Annual 24 Hour Rice Fast

Every year our students rise to the challenge, and this year was no different. Our 24 hour sponsored rice fast has just taken place and we couldn't be prouder.

This year 78 students took part in the fast to raise money for a charity called Sethani, an organisation based in South Africa. The charity supports children affected by the HIV epidemic. We've supported this charity for a number of years and the money we have raised has been used to help build a school, classrooms, playground, paid for uniforms so children can attend school and for food parcels for those in crisis.

Our students ate only a bowl of rice in 24 hours to experience what it is like for too many children every day and to date they have raised over £900. A special mention has to go to Katie in 7C who raised over £85 alone!

Here's some of the lovely things our students said.

"I can't believe that children in the world are forced to go hungry and doing this fast has helped me to understand that. I’m glad I could do something to help."

"Today has shown me never to take money or food for granted."

"I can't imagine what it would feel like to live every day like this. I'm now grateful more than ever for the privilege I have that allows me to have a full meal every day."
